The short answer
These three tools all move data between apps. They are not interchangeable once hosting, who edits the flow and how messy the branches are become clear. Zygrix does not start with a preferred vendor.
Side-by-side comparison
| Question | n8n | Zapier | Make |
|---|---|---|---|
| Who hosts it? | Your cloud or ours | Zapier cloud | Make cloud |
| Who should edit it? | Someone comfortable with nodes and data | Operations or marketing without engineering | Operations that think in visual scenarios |
| Branching and volume | Strong for complex or high-volume jobs | Best for short, linear zaps | Strong visual branching, watch operation cost |
| Pick it when | Data cannot leave, or the flow is a system | The team must own simple automations | The picture of the scenario is the main artifact |
How Zygrix decides
We map the process first. If the work is a few known apps and a non-technical owner, Zapier or Make is usually enough. If the flow is a system, needs self-hosting, or will run at volume, n8n is usually the better base. Power Automate stays in the mix when the team already lives in Microsoft 365.
- Hosting and data boundary come before brand preference
- The person who will maintain the flow must be able to read it
- Silent failure is not acceptable: retries, alerts and a written handover are part of the work
What to do next
If you already pay for one of these tools, we start there. A workflow audit lists which hand-offs to automate and which tool fits each one.
